Pure. Simple. And as organic as possible.
Many of us are continuously trying to educate ourselves on what foods will nourish our bodies and minds. Generally, we are doing the best we can to protect the health of ourselves and our loved ones. And I think as a planet we are becoming more conscious. It's a good thing! But sometimes awareness doesn't come in one fell swoop; sometimes it comes in chunks. At least for me.
My cleansing started first with energy. Eliminating the toxic people and things from my life that we energy-draining, and incorporating practices that I found took my energy to the next level: yoga, breathing, and meditation (still workin on this one!).
Then I began to become aware of the impact food had on my health, mood, and energy as well. I became so curious about it that I turned it into a career! And let me just say that this is an EVOLVING journey, one that fully expect to be on for the rest of my life.
But as the foods that I ate became more pure, fresh, and nutritious, I began to wonder about the other products I was putting into and onto my body; namely, beauty products.
I don't know about you, but somehow in all the science and reading, I'd forgotten that my skin was the largest organ of my whole body!! And the products I'd been using were...less than healthy-friendly...to say the least.
Now I'm not saying go strip your cabinets pronto and throw everything in the trash- it's expensive stuff! I know! I used to buy a lot of it! But let me offer one additional product that rocked my skincare world, a product that had been in my kitchen all along.
Say hello to my little friend- coconut oil!!
This beaut is an all-in-one makeup remover, face/body wash, and moisturizer, and if you get the good stuff (organic, unrefined, cold-pressed) its free of chemicals and additives too!!
Coconut oil contains medium chain fatty acids which keep the skin soft and dewey, and may even reduce the appearance of pores! The caprylic acid naturally antimicrobial/antifungal, and can assist in healing skin wounds, burns, and blemishes.
Last but not least, coconut oil contains vitamin E and proteins that add the glitter-effect of anti-aging!
So slather it on straight from the jar, or make an aromatherapy concoction with your favorite essential oils- I like Young Living Lavender and Frankincense for skincare (1-2 drops MAX). P.S. you can glean similar benefits from ingesting the stuff too- not something I could say about my old skincare regimen.
Moral of the story: if the holidays have your skin in a fit, take a deep breath, and look no further than your kitchen!
Peace and Glowing Skin! Namaste*
