Ahhh. I am feeling rested and renewed post-Christmas holiday, and I hope that you are too! I was fortunate enough to spend a few days back home with my family for Christmas, and I am still feeling the warm, bubbly energy from their presence.
I have a lot of treasured family holiday traditions, but one of my most favorite is waking up early to sit around the kitchen table with whomever else is up with coffee and good conversation. It's usually just a couple of us with our warm mugs in the quiet morning stillness, and I cherish every second of it. Sometimes, we spend the time simply catching up on what's happening in our lives, but on one particular morning this past week, the conversation turned into something really meaningful.
It all started with a cup of Bulletproof Coffee (which is slowly becoming a staple at our holidays :)). From there we began discussing the focus we'd each been placing on our own health, and how that'd impacted the foods we'd chosen to nourish our bodies with. For my family this year, it meant less sugar, gluten, dairy, and processed foods in general, and more real, whole foods at the holiday table.
We talked about the current state of our nation's and world's health, and how disconnected we've become from the foods that fill our homes. We talked about the increasingly fast pace people live at, while ironically becoming more and more sedentary. We talked about the power of connection; of intention and prayer, over the foods we eat and all that we do. We talked about fear v. trust in others, and working together over putting ourselves first.
It's really easy to get caught up in the bubble of our own lives, but It's all connected and it's all happening around us all the time. What's really critical for us to understand, is that we have choice; we choose how we see and experience the world, and we choose how we are going to contribute to it.
So as one more year of your life comes to a close, with a new one on the horizon, allow yourself some time and space to reflect meaningfully.
What words would you use to describe the life you are currently living?
How does it impact your health, relationships, and your mark on the world?
And most importantly, what are you going to do about?
Peace and renewed energy,
