Tis the season…for sales galore, advertisements, and all things “Christmas”. Of course there’s a certain fun and excitement in finding gifts for others, and spending more time with friends and loved ones. But there’s also a chaotic energy that urges us to buy more! Have more! Be more! And before we know it, we can get swept up in an all-night online shopping marathon, and find ourselves feeling less than jolly!
So this week in our practice, both off and on our mats, we focused our intention on SIMPLIFYING. Because let’s face it: we as humans are pretty good at overly complicating things (I know I am!). Even on our yoga mats, we want to speed through the vinyasas, hurry along the warm up poses and get to the juicy stuff; go further, push harder. And some of that energy is good, it carries us forward and we grow. The trick is to find the balance.
Through the holiday season and beyond, I encourage you to find moments where you can come back to basics: sitting quietly, breathing, enjoying a rich conversation, cooking a simple but fresh and nutritious meal. Look for ways to simplify your life, and call yourself out on the place you tend to overly complicate.
I promise you, you’ll be a much happier, more present (no pun intended ;) ), you!
Peace and holiday zen,
