This is something I’ve been bringing awareness to recently; over the weekend I attended an AMAZING experience called The Fearless Heart. It was a Kundalini yoga class combined with LIVE kirtan, co-created by an awesome husband and wife duo: Jai Dev and Simrit; you can check them out here.
Jai Dev is a profound Yoga and Ayurvedic teacher, and the way he explained our experience of emotions really created a shift in my perception. He shared that thoughts, beliefs, and emotions – at their most basic value- are simply energy vibrations (i.e. if we were to try to study them within a human being, we would just see various frequencies). Some operate at lower vibrations (not bad or worse, just lower) and some at higher vibrations. What’s more is that we have the power within us to SHIFT from low vibration energy to a higher vibration at our choosing; really, we can!
He gave as an example, anger. Anger, when we are not in awareness of it (lower vibration), can operate as heat in the body that causes inflammation within (think ulcers, acid reflux, IBS) and inflammation without (acne, rashes, dry red eyes), and can lead to us lashing out at someone else, upsetting their nervous system balance as well! However, when we are AWARE that we are feeling anger, we can use it as fuel to shift us into a higher vibration: we can do some Pranayama (breathing), move our bodies to move the energy throughout, or drink a glass of water. Energy that could have been harmful to us and others has now shifted into a higher state: this heat becomes the luster/radiance of the skin, a highly functioning digestive system, bright white eyes, and sharp clear intuitive intelligence.
The same goes for other emotions: depression, lethargy, and isolation can become groundedness, and a loving, nurturing presence for ourselves and others. Fear and anxiety can be shifted into creative expression. What’s most important is that we acknowledge and own the power to choose. It starts with becoming aware: what are your triggers and where do they have a tendency to lead you? What cues and strategies can you use to remind you to shift out of a low vibratory state and into a higher one?
